You first noticed Shinigami, magical creature whose job is to gather the souls of the deceased when you were just a young child. When you were an adult, your exceptional aptitude led to a job with a covert government organization that kept track of their activities in Japan. Inadequate paperwork and lengthy meetings make up the majority of your workday, but one night you come face to face with a ghost—a perilous apparition that only manifests if a soul cannot be safely reclaimed.

As soon as tales of these hauntings start to flood the nation, you and three other elite Shinigami are put on a covert task team to look into them. As if that weren't terrifying enough, the agency director breaks the news to you that your own soul will be taken in just 30 days, which makes your heart stop.
